A complete guide to deploying Next.js applications on Vercel for Nigerian developers — from environment variables to custom domains and performance optimisation.

Why Vercel for Nigerian Projects?
Vercel's Edge Network includes nodes in Johannesburg which serve Nigerian users with lower latency than US-based servers. Zero-config Next.js deployment and free SSL make it the best hosting for most Nigerian web projects.
Environment Variables
Add all environment variables (DATABASE_URL, CLOUDINARY credentials, PAYSTACK keys) in the Vercel project settings under Environment Variables. Never commit .env files to Git.
Custom Domain Setup
Point your .ng or .com domain to Vercel by adding CNAME and A records through your domain registrar. NiRA domains (.ng) can be registered through NiRA-accredited registrars.
Serverless Function Limits
Vercel's free tier has 10-second function timeout limits. For long-running operations (PDF generation, large CSV exports), use Edge Functions or move to a dedicated Node.js server on Railway or Render.
